Senator Yari visits the Shehu of Borno in Maiduguri

Senator Abdulaziz Yari paid homage to the Shehu of Borno at his palace in Maiduguri on 15 September 2026, continuing a programme of national consultations.

A palace engagement

The visit provided an opportunity for the Senator and his delegation to listen, exchange perspectives and discuss peace, unity and Nigeria's development. The palace reception was followed by an address to the gathering and a conversation with the press.

Yari attended in the context of his assignment as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council. His presence reflected the council's outreach to traditional institutions and communities.

Respecting institutional roles

The Shehu’s palace is an important setting in Borno’s traditional and community life. The visit brought the council’s national engagement programme to Maiduguri and into direct conversation with the traditional institution.

The Maiduguri visit followed the same emphasis on personal consultation seen in the Senator’s meetings with religious leaders in Kaduna, Jos and Bauchi. Each engagement brought the delegation into a different community and institutional setting.
