Distinguished Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari met the respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf Sambo Rigachikum in Zamfara State on Friday, 2 October 2026, for a conversation on faith, peace and the welfare of communities.

Distinguished Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari on Friday, 2 October 2026, met the respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf Sambo Rigachikum in Zamfara State.
The meeting took place on the same day the Senator was in Gusau for the commissioning of the reconstructed Sambo Dan-Ashafa Jumu’at Mosque, an occasion that brought many religious and traditional leaders to the state capital.
A scholar known across the North
Sheikh Yusuf Sambo Rigachikum is one of the best-known Islamic scholars in northern Nigeria. Based in Kaduna, he has spent decades teaching, preaching and guiding students, and his lectures are followed by large audiences across the region and beyond. He is widely respected for his plain speaking and for his calls to patience, honesty and good conduct in public life.
A conversation among elders
The Sheikh and the Senator spent time together in conversation on matters of faith, peace and the welfare of communities in Zamfara and the wider North West, and on the responsibility of leaders to serve the people honestly.
Senator Yari thanked the Sheikh for his time and for the guidance he continues to give to Muslims across the North, and asked for his prayers for Zamfara, for the North West and for Nigeria.
Listening to religious leaders
Senator Yari has long valued the counsel of Islamic scholars. Throughout his career, as Governor of Zamfara State, as a Senator and now as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, he has made a point of meeting religious leaders, hearing their concerns and seeking their prayers.
Scholars like Sheikh Rigachikum speak to and for communities that politicians do not always reach. Their views on what people are facing, on the cost of living, on insecurity and on the conduct of public officials, are an important guide for anyone in leadership.
Part of a busy day in Zamfara
The visit was one of several engagements that filled the Senator's day in Zamfara. He arrived in the state that morning to a warm reception, attended the mosque commissioning in Gusau alongside His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, and met elders, party leaders and friends at his residence.
His meeting with Sheikh Rigachikum was a quieter part of that day.
Prayers for peace
The meeting closed with prayers for peace in Zamfara and across Nigeria, and for wisdom and sincerity among those entrusted with leadership.
