Senator Abdul’aziz Yari arrives in Gusau

Distinguished Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari arrived in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, on Friday, 2 October 2026, for a day of engagements in his home state.

A welcome at the airport

Party leaders, elders, youth groups and supporters were waiting at the airport when his aircraft landed. He spent a long time on the tarmac and in the arrival hall, shaking hands, embracing old friends and exchanging greetings with people he has known for decades.

For many of those who came out, the welcome was about more than politics. Senator Yari served Zamfara as Governor for eight years and has represented Zamfara West in the Senate since 2019. The people at the airport were neighbours, former colleagues and supporters who have followed his career from the start.

Government House and the mosque commissioning

From the airport, the Senator's convoy moved through the city to Zamfara State Government House.

The day's central event was the commissioning of the reconstructed Sambo Dan-Ashafa Jumu’at Mosque in Gusau, which brought His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, Governor Dauda Lawal Dare and other leaders together. Senator Yari joined them for the ceremony and the prayers that followed.

Meetings with elders and stakeholders

Later in the day, the Senator met elders, community leaders and political stakeholders. In a series of conversations at his residence, he listened to their views on the situation in the state, on the welfare of communities and on preparations for 2027.

He also met the respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Yusuf Sambo Rigachikum, who was in Zamfara that day.

Senator Yari has always kept an open door to people from home.

Home, and the work ahead

As Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Yari now spends much of his time in Abuja and on the road across the country. He has said that his roots in Zamfara remain the foundation of everything he does, and that he will keep coming home to listen to the people who first sent him into public service.

The Gusau visit was a reminder of those roots.

The Senator thanked the people of Zamfara for their warm welcome and prayed for peace, security and progress in the state.
