The November 2023 eye-care outreach brought assessment, treatment and surgery where appropriate to General Hospital, Talata Mafara.
The pilot
The intervention was designed for 1,000 residents of Zamfara West, including older people, women, children and people unable to afford eye care. Visions Savers Eye Care Center was named as the delivery team.
The intended service included medicines and referral of complex cases. Treatment decisions belonged to the clinical team.
Reach and delivery
The pilot target describes planned access to care. It is not a record of 1,000 completed operations. Further selection was envisaged across Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata Mafara.
