A guide to Senator Yari’s legislative, executive and intergovernmental service.
Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari’s public-service career spans federal representation, two terms as Governor of Zamfara State and leadership of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
Federal and state service
He represented Anka/Talata Mafara in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 before becoming Governor of Zamfara. He served two elected terms, from 2011 to 2019.
During his second term, he also chaired the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. The 2015–2019 chairmanship brought a national coordination responsibility alongside his state executive office.
Zamfara West and national responsibilities
Yari returned to the National Assembly as Senator for Zamfara West in 2023. His constituency comprises Anka, Bakura, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Maradun and Talata Mafara.
In August 2026, he took on the role of Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. His current public work includes representation, community programmes and national consultations.
