Members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, led by the Director-General, Distinguished Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, held a meeting with His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. The meeting, held at the Presidential Campaign Council office, focused on engagements and preparations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The session brought the leadership of the Council together with the Vice President, who is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate on the All Progressives Congress ticket, to review the Council’s work and to align on the next phase of the campaign.

A strategic meeting at the heart of the campaign

The Presidential Campaign Council is the body charged with coordinating the APC’s national campaign for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. Its work spans strategy, stakeholder engagement, mobilisation and the communication of the Renewed Hope administration’s achievements to Nigerians in every state and the Federal Capital Territory.

Meeting the Vice President directly gives that work clear direction. As a principal on the ticket, Vice President Shettima brings the perspective of the administration itself, while the Council brings the organisation, reach and planning required to carry the campaign’s message across the country. The session at the Council office connected those two strengths as preparations for 2027 gather pace.

Engagements and preparations ahead of 2027

The meeting focused on two connected priorities: the Council’s programme of engagements and its preparations for the presidential election.

Engagement has been central to the Council’s work in recent weeks. Under Senator Yari’s leadership, Council delegations have paid courtesy visits to traditional institutions, including the palaces of the Oba of Lagos and the Oba of Benin on 14 and 15 September 2026, and the Shehu of Borno in Maiduguri. The Director-General has also led consultations with religious leaders and stakeholders across Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi and Plateau, and has reviewed operations at the Council’s headquarters.

Those engagements reflect a deliberate approach: a campaign that listens as well as speaks, and that builds support through respect for Nigeria’s institutions and communities. The meeting with the Vice President provided an opportunity to take stock of that programme and to plan the engagements ahead.

Preparation is the second pillar. A national campaign requires coordination across states, zones and structures, a clear timetable of activities, and the readiness of the Council’s teams to deliver the campaign’s message effectively. The Council’s leadership and the Vice President discussed that readiness as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.

Senator Yari’s leadership of the Council

Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari leads the Presidential Campaign Council as its Director-General. He brings to the role long experience in public service and party organisation. He served in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011, was elected Governor of Zamfara State for two terms from 2011 to 2019, and chaired the Nigeria Governors’ Forum from 2015 to 2019. Since 2023, he has represented Zamfara West in the Senate, where he chairs the Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation.

On his 58th birthday on 28 September 2026, President Tinubu described Senator Yari as a loyal party man, an experienced administrator and a grassroots mobiliser, and expressed appreciation for his leadership of the Council as it promotes the administration’s Renewed Hope achievements and reforms ahead of the 2027 elections. The meeting with the Vice President, two days later, reflected that same sense of purpose.

Vice President Shettima and the Renewed Hope ticket

Vice President Kashim Shettima, a former two-term Governor of Borno State and former Senator, has served alongside President Tinubu since 2023. As the President’s running mate, he remains central to the campaign’s message and to the coordination of its national strategy.

His meeting with the Council underlines the close working relationship between the administration and the campaign structure. It ensures that the Council’s plans reflect the priorities of the ticket, and that the campaign presents a united and consistent message to Nigerians.

Communicating the Renewed Hope record

A core responsibility of the Council is to set out clearly what the Tinubu administration has delivered. That record spans economic and fiscal reforms, infrastructure such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, access to education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, investment in healthcare, support for farmers and new opportunities for young Nigerians through programmes such as 3 Million Technical Talent.

The Council’s engagements with communities, institutions and stakeholders are the means by which that record reaches citizens directly. Strategic meetings such as this one ensure the engagements are coordinated, well prepared and focused on what matters most to Nigerians.

Unity of purpose

The meeting reflected unity of purpose among the Council’s leadership. Members of the Council joined the Director-General in the session with the Vice President, underscoring a shared commitment to the success of the campaign and to the continued progress of the country under the Renewed Hope agenda.

For the Council, the message from the meeting is clear: the campaign is organised, its leadership is engaged, and preparations for 2027 are firmly under way.

The work ahead

The Presidential Campaign Council will continue its programme of engagements across the states and its preparations for the presidential election. Further updates on the Council’s activities, engagements and meetings will be published as the campaign progresses.

Photographs from the meeting are available in the gallery, and a short film from the Council office is available in the video collection.
